Preveza

We had a good time in Corfu and hired a car for the
day to look at this once beautiful island, I say that because all the parts we
visited were completely overrun by tourism, even 'off the beaten track' villages
were ruined by signage and an overabundance of tacky 'English' bars and shops.
Saw Michelle and Julian off monday evening and returned the car. Set off on
Tuesday midday for Paxos on our trip towards Preveza, our previous mooring spot
was full and I made a bad decision, we anchored in a South East facing bay, on
rock, in about 4 metres of water, this was fine while the gentle North West
breeze blew, as it did all evening, we had supper, scrabble and went to bed, I
awoke around 0200 to a brisk South Easterly wind, P3 had swung arpund and was
bobbing energetically to the choppy little rollers coming into the now open bay.
We both lay awake, with me paying frequent visits to the cockpit to check we
were holding, until 0430 when the wind died down, then we slept. Will I ever
learn? We set off Wednesday morning and dropped anchor in an idyllic bay on Anti
Paxos the little diminutive south of Paxos for a last swim and snorkel in the
turquoise waters, we watched little flatties doing a mating dance, Carol spotted
2 sea horses, much to her delight. We then pottered off and had an uneventful
motor sail to Preveza, arriving around 1600. What a strange place! A little like
Chichester Harbour, big expanse of water with the 3 boatyards on the starboard
side as you enter and the town on the port side. Preveza Marina has been built
for several years but never finished, full of boats parked any old how and no
room for us. We anchored outside, our preference and had a lovely evening aboard
with John and Jill, two new friends we have met, they have a steel Ketch,
Petronella, and left Portimao in July and have been unintentionally following us
since, although they came straight to Greece and missed out Croatia. We drank
too much wine and went to bed around 1100. Up early this morning to check in and
prepare for the haul out this afternoon.
