The island of Mjlet is undoubtedly the most
beautiful we have visited yet in Croatia, it is green and the inlets and bays
are amazing, presently in Luca Polaci, an inlet about a mile deep and half a
mile wide, occupied as a natural harbour since at least 200AD anchored by the
bow with the stern tied to a tree, lovely. Wind a bit scarce but lots of
sunshine and clear water, best snorkelling so far on this island. Walked to the
inland lakes yesterday and hired canoes for a spot of exercise. It is a strange
thing, Mljet relies on its water from ship delivery from the mainland, no mains
pipe. And there are these two bloody great lakes which were presumably fresh
water, a channel has been dug, connecting the lakes to the sea, so the water is
fresh no longer.... why?
