An eventful trip

We left Port Teulada, the little marina on the
South West corner of Sardinia, at 0600 Wednesday morning. We spent a nice day
there, walked around to the camp site, with its mini market(fresh bread and ok
Sardinian wine at 5 euros for 2 litres!) lazed on the beach, had our first swim,
bit fresh but lovely. We left in a typical early morning no wind situation and
motor sailed until about 1600 when the south westerly breeze sprang up and we
sailed happily for 4 or 5 hours, I dragged a lure from the fishing rod, as I
normally do, and ,surprise surprise, we caught a magnificent 20 pound blue fin
tuna, Arthur and I pulled it in and I quickly filleted it and it was in the
fridge in a trice, with the back of the boat washed off in double quick time in
due defference to Carol who is not keen on my fishing exploits. However, fish
for lunch today. The wind continued to increase and veered to West South West,
forcing us North of our disired course, it eventually reached over 30 knots and
we found ourselves in a gale, beating, the worst place to be! We coped and after
about 3 or 4 hours the wind dropped to a more manageable 25 knots, as I write
this it is 1000 and we are motoring into about 5 knots of wind, 60 miles to go,
if the weather stays like this we should make Mahon around 2000 tonight, we are
only making about 5.5 knots owing to the slight breeze and 1 knot of current
against us. However, all well and happy, if a bit tired. It certainly is a
pleasure to have Arthur along for these overnighters, 3 hour watches instead of
4 make all the difference in the world. Mind you, like all 20 year olds, here we
are 1000 and he is still in his bunk!!
