Hi All,
We are taking a day out of a busy schedule to relax
a bit and do some school. This morning we moved up to the northern end of
Palakula Bay to explore the old wrecked coastal frieghter and abandoned fish
processing plant there. All went very well until we hauled up the anchor and as
it came over the roller, the swivel in the chain broke and our $500 anchor
disappeared back into the water. After some panicked scambling around we were
able to mark the spot where we thought it went with the dinghy anchor and a
fender tied off on it. Cate and the girls then quickly donned snorkelling gear
and went for a swim to find it. Sucess came shortly thereafter and with the
assistance of Dave off "Sea Esta" and Tony and Kerry off "Fortaleza" we were
able to retrieve the anchor and reconnect it up - minus the swivel piece, which
I will never replace. It seems that for the last 18 months or so we have been
relying on the 3/8" centre pin of the swivel for our anchor security...Not good
at all.
After our little "event" we moved anchorage up to
Aese Is from where we will depart for Lolowai on Ambi Is early tomorrow morning
- it will be good to get off the beaten track for a while.
Until tomorrow, TTFN
