- Moored on an Aquarium Cafe Mooring in Nieafu Harbour.
Hi All,
Had a cracking sail overnight, we even had to slow
down in order to safely enter the harbour here. Not much sleep overnight
unfortunately, so we are all a bit weary.
Vava'U is a very pretty harbour, which is the base
for a substantial yacht charter industry - it seems like a 1960's version of
Shute Harbour, before Airlie Beach was even thought of. The topography is quite
similar to the Whitsundays, although the overall area is much
smaller.
After arrival we dinghied ashore to the Customs
Shed and did our internal clearance in. We then headed up town to the Department
of Immigration to submit our crew list. The officials were all really nice and
we had no problems at all.
We stopped at a local cafe for a coffee and then we
came back to the boat and were joined by Bob from "Sylph" who we then spent a
very pleasant afternoon and too many beers with. Tonight we are going ashore to
the Aquarium Cafe for dinner and a few more beers....
The plan is to remain here until Friday morning to
complete some boat jobs, then out for a week or so to enjoy the awesome cruisig
arond Vava'U. Cruisng is back to being fun!
