Hi Al,
The last 24 hours have been pretty full on with
Ros's 60th birthday party aboard "Fortaleza" last night (good fun - 36 people on
a 48' yacht) followed by a visit to go shppoing and extend our visas, and a dive
on Million Dollar Point this afternoon.
Shopping was pretty good with a good range of
imported goods at a reasonable price and good quality (as opposed to Fiji where
the food was "alive"). We had to extend our visas from 30 days to allow for the
six weeks we will actually be here - at 5,000 Vatu (about $55 each) it wasn't a
cheap option, but I'm sure the cost will soon be forgotten as we trravel around
this interesting land.
The dive on Million Dollar point was pretty good -
just imagine the hill at Hamilton underwater with the sides covered with all
amanner of war materiel. These were essentially pushed off the end of a whaf at
the end of WWII because they had no way of getting the stuff back to the US.
There was an amazing array of things from rucks to jeeps to bulldozers,
forkilifts and cranes, along with a few small ships and tugboats thrown in.
Tomorrow (Saturday) we are eading off up to
Champagne Beach for the day to celebrate Lynne off "Windflower"s 50th birthday.
We used to think of 50 as old....
Let you know how it
goes....TTFN
