The sailing has been good this last twenty four
hours going from an easy reach into a run. The wind has been behind me all day
and I flew the spinnaker for about six hours in the middle of the day.
Unfortunately despite the good wind there has been no sun, mainly overcast and
grey with occassional rain.
The calmer weather, however, allowed me to make
pancakes for lunch which went down very well. It's the first time I have been
able to use the frying pan. You will realise the shape of the frying pan is not
condusive with being held in place by the fiddles, the bits that clamp round the
kettle or pot to stop it coming off the stove when underway. There is no way the
fiddles can hold a frying pan so it has to be calm to use it or you have to hold
it all the time, You need three hands to do this, one to hold yourself in place,
one to hold the pan in place and one to put the food in the
pan!!!
This afternoon my chart plotter decided it would
not talk to the instruments and would not calculate my course over the ground or
my speed over the ground. Fortunately all the individual instruments are working
fine and the GPS is still giving me a position but all the calculating functions
seem to have stopped. I've tried all the usual computor tricks to get it going
but it is ignoring me. Just waiting for a ship to go by so I can check the AIS
is still working otherwise I am going to be short of
sleep.
The forecast is still for winds of force 6,7 and 8
as I run up by Ireland and through the Irish Sea, I'm still hoping they are just
ahead of me and it won't be too bad. I'll let you know how I get on but I
must say I've had enough of this rough weather and am looking forward to getting
to Pwllheli, 350 miles to go as I write.
