Yes I Have finally reached my first aiming point.
Last time I saidif I came again I would pass right over her, Titanic that is,
unfortunately going round the3 icebegs meant I would pass to the south of
her,128 miles to be precise. Nevertheless we have made it this far, It has
always been a significant point for me. Now I shall change my europe3an chart
card for my USA card, this basically is a flash card in the chart
plotter containing all the charts of coastl waters, so it won't have any
noticableeffct out here but a point achieved. It is also the point at the
earliest opportunty after which I will have a shave, I don't find a hairy
face comfortable. It was also the point where I'd hoped we get saome sunny
weather and a freeing wind so that I could sit in the cockpit in comfort and
have my lunch. When you are working the boat to windward in strong
conditionsa you actually spend very little time on deck because of conswtant
wind and spray in your face, you're always wet!!
Whwen the boat is always tilted at 20 to 30 degees
and bouncing up and down you have to have a safe practice for handling boiling
water, which I do many times a day making tea.
Bang! There was an almighty bang as I was
typing this and I rushed on deck to see the jib tumbling down, I managed to get
to it before it went into the sea, the halyard had snapped. That was
at 12.50 local time. An hour later, wet and weary I'd got tthe jib flying on the
spinnaker halyard (rope for hoisting spinnaker) which means I won't be able to
use the spinnaker or chute, not that there has been any
opportunity.
Just when she was going really well something
happens to blunt your enthusiasm? so I've got that feeling of frustration again,
never mind two cups of tea soon cured that. Ah! now tea, I might as well
finnsh telling you my tea making method at 30 degree angle.
Tea bag in cup in left hand, bum firmly wedgwed on
the second step of the companionway steps, feet braced wide apart, pick up
kettle lean well forward so any spillage falls between your feet and fill cup
three quarters full and replace kettle keeping cup level. when the tea has
brewed long enough remove tea bag. level incup now two thirds full, which is low
enough for most conditions not to spill, place cup down and leave to cool.
When cool enough to drink add powderewd milk, it disolves b etter when cool,
then top up cup fom kettle and drink down to two thirds full before you place it
down.
All that just to make a cuppa!!!
Another eventful day,
Love Poppa /Dad/Roger
