The light winds yesterday went during the night and I took
down the goose winged Genoa, gybed and set course direct to Lajes on the island
of Flores at top speed. If the present conditions prevail, and the weather
forecast says they will, then I will arrive 4 miles off Lajes at about 6
or 6.30 tonight. The sun sets at 19.27 hours so that will leave me
about an hour to do the last 4 miles round the bottom of the
Island and into the marina before it gets dark. The timing is very
tight as at the time of writing I am still 40 miles away. I have no charts of
this marina, it having been built just recently and the pilot does not recommend
anchoring at night so if i don't make it I shall have to put back out to sea and
sail up and down until daylight.
As the title says - it's touch and go whether we make
it or not. I am doing everything I can well ahead so I am fully
prepared when I arrive, hence the early daily report.
I'll let you8 know how it turns out.
Love Poppa/Dad/Roger
