Miles to Newport via Titanic 1275
I've been telling
you abouit the sterong weather and how affects the job in hand of getting to
Newport.. The principle side effect is on the inside of the boat and the
comfort of the man. Although the sea hasn't (yet!!!) cascaded in the cabin is
wet everywhere. The cushions are soaked, the walls, the floor, in fact
every surface is wet to touch. This is compounded by the dfact that my
water proof trousers aren't water proof. I had suspected my ocean
suit was leaking for some time and when I had to go on deck the other night to0
get the mainsail down in the pouring rain and with the sea throwing the
spray and odd wave at me i realised my suit didn't leak it was positively
porous. I reverted to y spare pair of sailing trousers and quickly found the
seamin the back side had gone4 in them too. My back side being constantly
wet I stared changing trousers but there was no future in that because I quickly
ran out of trousers and with no drying days I had to accept a wet bottom.
So what I do now is keep my 'waterproof' trousers hanging inside out in the
cabin and when I have to go outside to tend to the boat I select the driest pair
to put on. I do the same with the jacke3ts, there's nothing worse when
youv'e got to go outside into the cold and wet than sliding your arm or leg into
a wet tube.
My bed, of course, is damp and clamy, I wear
no underwear just a pair of fleece trousers that seem to shed the moisture
quickly; Oh for a warm dry day with sunshine. There's nothing on the
horizon.
Today though; the wind gods are being kind,
still beating with two reefs, mind you, so you know what it's like by my
tyt6ping, BUT I am sailing straight to Titanic, which should clear the ice
bergs; fingers crossed it holds.
