My first attempt at a blog this trip and for those
who are not in touch with"Command HQ" I give you the first 9 days in bullet
points
- Super start day, I really enjoyed it, the
children shouting your going the wrong way, The tussle with John And Fluffy on
the start line and 30 hours of spinnaker Genaker sailing
- Found a stowaway on board in the form of a
particularly virilent cold germ which laid me low monday night and all
day tuesday with everything tied down boat thundered on through the
nightlooking after her self, she took some hammer coas I should have reduced
sail further but was not fit
- In my pit all day wind eased in the evening
running preventer on main jib boomed out. Midnight AIS warning "dangerous
Target" rush on deck fishing boatheading staight for me less than 800
yds,closing speed 18 knots rush below for VHF too late we are now so
close I was debating where we would strike. with all the sail pinned down if I
altwerd course the boat would stop and I'd be dead in the water. So I
elected to keep my speed 6 knots and rely on a last minute
manouver. At 50 yards he did an emergency stbd 90 degree turnand went
round me I called but got no repy!!
- recouperating, or so i thought but well behind
with food and sleep in relatively manageable weather. Hawk, yes
hawk type bird spent 2 hours trying to land in my rigging
- Becalmed sailsdown sleeping still not imprving,
started Anti biotics
- weather strong but managable, extremely lethargic,
stuggling to eat, no appetite, but get sick if I don't eat
- Very heavy night regular 30 kts wind. fully
reefed, postage stamp jib Ella Trout had to tough it out and look after both
of us. changed anti biotic
- Lovely sunny day, short spell of 5 otherwise
regular 7 still deteriorating now dangerously lethargic, considered retiring
and set off south. After a few hours it was such a lousy heading carrying me
SE, I thought sod it and turned west.
- Anti biotic seem to have kick in now feeling
better and have an appitite again chest and nose still heavily congested now
taking part in the event again. better but not good
Yr messages of support have as they say 'filled me
up' and I think helped keep me going, keep them coming.
I know there are typing spelling errors but this
will have to do for now
