HELLO ALL READERS
This is Ella Trout III reporting further news on our
adventure.
Today the calm weather has continued and the wind
still doodles us about (nautical term). Hence with all the sunny weather
mummy read her third book and I snoozed on deck. Finally, at
around 12 noon, the wind started to pick up and we started gaining speed and
ground, I found it quite funny when we were all very grateful for the wind
letting us get to a grand speed of 3.5 knots.
Early this morning, Poppa had just finished his
Weetabix when he heard a sound like no other. Something outside the back of the
boat was calling him, he shot up stairs and there it was, a mountain of
shiny jet black flesh ploughing towards him. Like a rocket, Poppa whipped
down below and shouted "Sarah a whale!" and Mummy said "James a
whale!". She didn't have to finish the sentence I had already jumped
out the batcave(the front of the boat) and ran upstairs and looked around.
Suddenly I realised I had come out of bed too quickly, I couldn't see anything
and I became very dizzy, by the time I focused again the whale had
gone.
After about 20 minutes of me complaining "I wish
they'd come back" we heard, the sound, it rang in my ears! immediately
I asked myself "Was that my imagination?" in a split second I made my
decision, I would check. And there they were 2 rolling jet black mountains, we
could still see there blasts of water and air coming out of there blow holes
from miles away.
After that we had the usual cheese and biscuits. Poppa was
up very early so he "put his head down" as we say on the boat, after Poppa
went to bed I put my head phones in and listened to music, that was when I had
my snooze.
I woke up and slowly looked around I saw that we had
forgotten to fill the log in at 12 so I quickly wrote our position and the other
info but I didn't now the wind speed so I ask Mummy. She used her huge knowledge
on sailing and wind and said "a 2". Soon after poppa woke up and we showed
him a strange cargo ship that wasn't moving, he said "well if not moving then
it's not a problem boy". Not long after
more whales came this time on the port side and it
looked like they'd brought friends, dolphins darted about the slow lumbering
beast. Like last time the whale was about 100 to 200 feet away, and it had a few
breaths and went away. But the dolphins had found a
quicker object to play around, they swam round the front
of the boat turning side ways to look at me. The dolphins look at me and the
then surface all at the same time like the were showing off or they'd practiced
for this moment. Mummy kept trying to get pictures of the dolphins surfacing,
but unfortunately, didn't succeed all she got was the splash after it had
gone under again. The dolphins played for about 30 minutes then mummy and poppa
went down stairs to look at there photos. However by doing that they missed the
best bit, a dolphin jumped about a metre in the air and two metres in length
landed and disappeared.
After that, we had lunch, mince meat with baked beans and
vegetables well I say mince meat it was more like saw dust with the flavour of
mince. Nothing really happen after the excitement of seeing whales, the ocean
once again seemed empty. Then ,as we were all down stairs, we looked in Poppas
whale book and found that it was a fin whale, 18-22 metres long and 30-80 tones.
It truly was a giant easily twice as long as the boat and as wide. Then for
about 3 hours nothing happened only a tug boat came past and we suspected it was
going to meet the cargo ship that wasn't moving. When Poppa was putting his wire
from the computer away he found a disk that Andy (a jester challenger) had
given him, the movie was of his rescue. We watched the movie and then the wind
started to change so Poppa and went up stairs and started to release
the sails, when out of the silence we heard a familiar sound, the
sound of a whale blowing, our heads shot up and there it was the fin whale
only 5 feet from the port side of the boat!!! Mummy and I both went
OH...MY...GOD...Mummy tried to get a photo but the whale had gone by that time.
Absolutely awesomized we all got back to doing our jobs. Poppa and I tidied
up the cruising chute and Mummy made dinner. After dinner I started to
write this blog. it was getting to bed time and I hadn't finished so I went
to bed and finished it this morning.
After all the events that happened yesterday I know I'm am
never going to forget this trip.
This is Ella Trout III over and
out.
