Following my East/West comparison the day before yestrday I decided to take a closer look.  I was 40.5°W going east on the 1st June and arrived on the 22nd, a total of 21 days.  I left Newport on the 6th July, I am now at 40.5°W and it has only taken 11days. Strong winds in both directions but what a difference both in time and effort!!

We are still pressing on at a great pace and at this rate I was hoping to make Flores by the 20th but I see from the weather charts the the centre of the Azores High (where there is no wind of course!) is chasing me east and may catch me before I make landfall in  Flores.  It looks a close run thing but my forecast does not go far enough ahead to suggest what its going to do?

Following on from this I did an analysis of this out bound run and results below show that only on one day did I average less than 5kts and on 4 days I averaged over 6kts; and the average for the whole 11 days is ove 5.5kts. Quite amazing!!

The only natural thing to report today was I saw three birds; small, black fast flying very different from the cruising shearwaters gliding over the sea.  no idea what tey were unless they were Petals but they were too big to be storm petrals.
