Getting close?  Well so it seems, only 250 miles Pwllheli to Dunlaoghaire six times!!!!

After the calm last evening I was up and down all night as the wind gradually filled in from the south. It started about 11 oclock and by 5 oclock in the mornining it was up to strength, by that I meean at 11 I had all sails set and by 5 I had 3 reefs and half a jib flying. but it was ok because I could head direct to Newport; second day running!  As the day went on the wind gradually swung ahead (as usual) and now it's tea time I am heading almost and will have go onto the other tack.  So the wind gods are still not making it easy but we are getting there.

It is noticeable that when it is rough the shearwaters, (I think they're shearwaters, long pointed wings, grey on top and white under, amazing flying skill) are frequently seen but when it is calm I don't see them.  I've watched them for ages but have never seen one take anything from the water. They are obviously feeding because of their intense study of the surface and the closeness they fly to the water between the waves,  /they seem to curl the tips of their wings downto skim the surface of the water.  And as they fly in the trough of the big waves there are lots of smaller waves of all different sizes and direction but they stil skim the surface with impunity.I find their skill and ability facinating.

When I started writing it was thick wet mist that coated your glasses in minutes, now I look out and it is a clear blue sky and a sunny evening, but it's not warm.

Just 4 miles to the north of me I am just passing a yellow ODAS Buoy (Ocean-Data-Aquisition-System) I wouldn't like to run into that in the dark. Shows we are getting close!
