On Monday morning we emptied the Landcruiser at our site next to the pool, washed and re-stowed all the plates, pots and pans etc., got our stuff off the roof-rack and packed everything away tidily for handing the car back. We still had to off-load our stuff at the apartment so we headed there, only five minutes away, and parked outside, an hour before our appointment with Kristina, the owner’s friend.
We decided to find a coffee shop to fill in the hour when, by coincidence, a text arrived from Kristina, offering to do the handover a bit earlier, ‘if we were in town ‘. We jumped at the chance and she arrived 10 minutes later. The apartment, on the 5th floor, is beautiful, with a balcony and a view over the beach. There is a pool so Fi can get her tan evened out for Natasha and Ross’s wedding!
After Kristina left we commandeered a laundry trolley and started to unload the truck. Six trips later, we were done! Only the fridge left to clean.
The Britz depot was only five minutes away, so after filling with diesel, we parked in their ‘returns’ carpark and, our two jerrycans in hand, entered the office. Britz have a ‘recycling’ section for stuff that folk have bought but can’t take with them so we left the jerrycans their and handed the keys back. I told the agent about our mishap with the rooftent but he seemed unconcerned. He didn’t even look at the car.
We have done 10,280 km in the Landcruiser since leaving Perth.
We decided to walk back to the apartment along the esplanade, about 40 minutes. We seem to be in the ‘medical district’ as the Cairns hospital is here, along with lots of other medical services.
We have four days here then we start again in something completely different.
