We packed up our camp at Mornington and were away by 8:25, arriving at Mt. Barnett road station by 11. We spent $130 on not very much in the shop. Diesel $2.05 per litre. We hadn’t decided whether we were going to stay at the Manning Gorge campground but decided to press on to Drysdale River Station as we’d made such good time. We were still unsure whether we’d go to Mitchell Falls. It wasn’t on the original plan as it seemed to be a very long detour off the Gibb and the road has a bad reputation. But everyone we met seemed to have been and said ‘we must go’. When asked about the road one guy told us, ‘worst road I’ve driven in Australia’! ‘But it was worth it’. So we planned to go to the jumping off point, Drysdale River Station, and decide there. But really I think the decision was already made!
