Sun & Mon – 16th & 17th Feb

We picked up Iain and Fiona and towed Thug (their dinghy) over to the French side so that they and Sarah could join the organised hike in the hills whilst I chose to avoid the additional stress on my knees and spent the morning helping two different yachts with their ‘Wirie’ WiFi antennas and I went over to the Dutch customs and sorted out our clearance papers for Monday morning.  The walkers returned mid-afternoon and we went for sundowners on board Ruffian and met Sim & Rosy from Wandering Star.

On Monday we made an early start so that we could pop over to La Sucriere – surely the world’s finest pastries (and free wifi) on the Dutch side.  Sarah picked up some final groceries and we headed back to Serafina, lifted the anchor and joined the boats milling around waiting for the bridge out of the lagoon to open.

Once back out at sea we had a wonderful sail:   up to Anguilla, enjoying a fast reach across the open water to the southern tip of the island and then a  beat up the west/north coast to Road Bay where we dropped the sails and motored in and dropped our anchor.  Ruffian came along a little later and anchored nearby and we all went ashore in Doris to clear in through customs and immigration and investigate the option of hiring a car to tour the island.

Customs was a delight and Anita the senior offer dealt with everything with great humour and a broad smile throughout.  We chose to just anchor here in Road Bay and not part with very large sums of money to go and visit their National Parks!

Ruffian came to Serafina for supper and Mexican Train but the rest of the night was very disturbed as it became very unpleasantly rolly throughout the anchorage.  It seems that when it turns rolly here, it gets horrid!
