Wed 17th July

We set off from Boston in glorious sunshine but very little wind and made our way back out to sea where the wind filled in a bit and so we soon had Flossie (our new lightweight genoa) flying and in no time we were racing out to sea at 8 knots.

We had a glorious sail to Marblehead where we arrived way ahead of schedule and picked up a town buoy as arranged between Sarah and the harbourmaster by phone earlier. Marblehead a is a large natural harbour but is so popular that there is no longer any anchoring permitted and you have to pick up a buoy if you wish to stay. There are supposed to be 2,300 mooring buoys here and it is a pretty impressive sight.

We launched the dinghy and went ashore to pay the harbourmaster and have a look round the town. It is all very smart and typically well maintained and historic, but the shops were few and the chandlery almost empty. We walked down to Boston Yacht Club which is one the very prestigious yacht clubs around the bay and James used his membership of the Royal Cruising Club and best English accent to gain us entrance to the posh clubhouse and its bar with a feature balcony where we enjoyed our cold drinks, sat in rocking chairs overlooking the bay and watched the racing yachts preparing for the Wednesday night racing.

In due course we made our way back to Serafina (having failed to find the harbourmaster, whose office was shut) and had a lovely evening as the sun went down, watching the racing boats and various other boats coming and going whilst enjoying our dinner and drinks – all very decadent.
