Friday 21st June

Sarah was up first thing to wash the decks in anticipation of our departure and right on cue, Chuck (finally) arrived with our new sail. We hoisted it and he demonstrated how we would trim it and control it, before we packed it away in the purpose -made bag and with a renewed spring in our steps, we prepared Serafina for going sailing again.

The bad news was that the tides were now all wrong for us and so we had to sit patiently until 1300 hours, watching the depth gauge finally indicate that we had possibly as much as a foot under the keel! David and Candy came down to say another protracted farewell and to have a coffee and helps us pass the time.

So it was around 1345 hours that we slipped our lines and very gingerly crept out of the slip and the marina and made our way down the incredibly shallow channel and then out across Herring Bay. Various neighbouring boats all felt it important to mention that we stood no chance of getting out and they seemed full of tales of boats with much less draft than us going aground in this part of the marina. But it all went well, although there was no wind at all today and we still had 40 miles to cover before dusk. We made good time motoring all the way and dropped anchor in Worton Creek at 2000 hours, where we sat and watched a very pretty sunset and settled back into life afloat once again.
