We departed Boavista at 1300 on Wednesday 15th December to sail the 400 mies
south east to Gambia. Nicky was feeing better and we found some tonic water
in a local Boavista cash and carry (tonic water is the drink of choice at
sundown for both Deby and Nic). We motored south then east round Boavista,
were tempted by fishing boats on a sea mount 30 miles south, but tracked
south east, sailed and caught a small tuna anyway. The wind increased to 20 knots
Northerly and we reefed down. Ocean waves are normally 100 metres apart, but
these were 5 metres or less, from all directions, making for a very choppy
passage. Nicky continues to improve but complains at the washing machine motion of the waves.
eta in Banjul is Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
