The past few days have been a mixture of ups and downs (no I am not referring to the waves, but then again they have been pretty big too).

On the up side, Beaujolais has set a new speed record....10.9kts (sog) and boat speed of 10.2kts. Admittedly we were flying the cruising chute at the time. That was another of the ups, flying the chute for a day and a night, we managed to make up a lot of lost ground, covering 162 miles in 24hrs.

On the downside, the snuffer had shredded a couple of the segments of the chute, plus the halyard had chaffed badly, so that put paid to flying the chute.

Another of the ups was when Rob hooked a swordfish. This fish was at least 65lbs. Rob and the fish fought for 50 minutes, the fish diving deep and then running and surfacing then leaping into the air. Made good video footage. But as we have no fridge, let alone a freezer, it would have been a waste to bring it on board. Which was just as well, because it decided to run.

So one of the downs was losing 300ft of line and one very nice lure. But because both participants had put up such a good fight, we declared it a draw.

Then back on the downside, we have not caught any fish (for eating) in 4 days. Rob hooked another big boy yesterday but it wasn't having any of it, taking off with another 300ft of line and yet another lure.

The weather has been good, mainly sunny, but the winds have been slowing our progress and all of the time made up with the cruising chute had been lost.

Apart from that we are all well and in good spirits, rations are holding up well, despite the best efforts of the sea to spoil things. Like when I was making pizzas, I opened the oven to see how they were doing and all the topping came flying off, splat, all over the oven door!!!

In a couple of hours we will have reached the half way mark, which is a major milestone for us. Only 1,523 miles to go!
