Puerto Aventuras 21st Feb
Yes, we're still in
Puerto Chris & Lesley
joined us on Valentines day, so to celebrate we threw a Valentines Party on
board, with Rob & Sheralee, Nicolas, Arasu and their 2 boys Nicolas and Max
& 2 new friends, Debbie and Wendle. Roger did a grand job on the BBQ,
despite being ill with a virus picked up in We invited Rob &
Sheralee to join us for the trip down to Tulum, an offer with they accepted
without hesitation. We had a cracking
sail down the coast with a steady 20knot wind all the way. The sun was shining
and everyone was getting a good tan, despite being blathered in factor
50. We arrived just after lunch and anchored
inside the reef. The holding was pretty poor, so when the day tripping catamaran
left we moved and picked up their buoy. This made the swim to
the reef shorter which was good as it was rather a strong current. The reef life
was not as good as I had hoped, but Roger spotted a turtle and I managed to get
a photo. After we had been
snorkelling we took the dinghy ashore to laze on the beach a while. Getting into
the dinghy to come back was interesting, especially for those of us who are
vertically challenged. To put it another way I was totally under water when it
came to my turn to get in, it is certainly a motivating
factor!!!! Once we were all
safely back on board we enjoyed a nice meal and great company. Rob &
Sheralee were heading back to Puerto, so Roger had to dinghy them back to the
beach, they then had to wade/swim ashore, change and catch a ‘collectivo’ (local
bus). Unfortunately Lesley
struggled in vain with her seasickness. So we decided the best course of action
was to return to Puerto the next day. It’s funny how things happen, because it
turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Roger had kindly passed his virus on
to me and it knocked the stuffing out of me, so it was just as well really. Plus
the weather forecast that Roger had was not accurate and there was a front
due. The wind was up as we
tentatively picked our way out of the reef and headed north. We screamed up the
coast and got back in less time than it took us to get to Tulum. The entrance to
Puerto was pretty rough with some big rollers coming in. We surfed in doing 6.8
knots, but Roger handled her beautifully and we made it safe and
sound. One of the best
things about coming back is the fact that there are 4 dolphins about to give
birth any day and so hopefully we will get to see the big event!!! They are
Madonna, Liz (her 2nd) Anyway, while I slept
over the next couple of days, Chris and Lesley went sightseeing and Roger caught
up on a few jobs. We said goodbye to
Chris and Lesley and they headed back to |
