Isla Isabel, Galapagos - (20)
With Rob & Sheralee stuck in It’s very unspoilt, with sandy roads and a few restaurants, hotels and a couple of shops. There are several sandy beaches and plenty of good snorkelling. The anchorage is lovely, quite well protected. But the best part is that you have sea lions and penguins swimming round your boat. In fact every morning at about 6.30 we hear the familiar snorting of the sea lions outside our porthole. They are so cheeky, we even had one on our dinghy. As you walk down the jetty the iguanas leisurely cross
in front of you. They aren’t as attractive as the iguanas in the Little red and orange crabs scuttle across the rocks. On this island they have flamingos, giant tortoises, Galapagos penguins (sorry about the photo, but they are so fast), Sea Lions, flightless cormorants (only place in the world that they are found) turtles, marine iguanas as well as all the marine life, particularly sea horses, bat fish, frog fish and sharks.
It’s quite a trek into town and there is no shade, so by the time you get there all you want is a cold drink. We stopped at one of the little restaurants and ordered the Almeurzo, which is like a fixed menu. We had soup, chicken stew with rice and Papaya juice for only $4. Very tasty indeed. We had been invited for sundowners on Soggy Paws again, but Elcie, a 65 ft catamaran had come into the anchorage and as they were 6 on board, they suggested we all came to them.
