Puerto Morelos to Peurto Aventuras
Today was booked to
be the big game fishing day. Roger & Tom had booked a boat to take them for
4 hours game fishing. But at 9am when they went to find the boat, it turned out
to be a little fishing boat and not the big motor cruiser they had
expected. Mario, the marina
captain, got the agent on the phone and 10 minutes later he arrived at the
marina and gave the boys a full refund. I suggested that we
could always go fishing in Puerto Aventuras, so the skipper decided to slip the
lines and make way (that’s sailing speak for getting the hell outta there) it
was a spontaneous departure that saw us heading south
again. A beautifully sunny
day but no wind, so we motor sailed. Silke put the fishing line out and we
settled down to sunbathing and enjoying the trip. I got up to let more
line out as we were trawling the line behind us, and was just locking the reel
when I got a bite. Now those of you who
know us, know that we haven’t yet managed to land a fish on Tom came aft and took
the reel. 5 minutes later we had a lovely King Mackerel, about 2 lbs, on board,
our first fish. So they boys got
their fishing after all. But the day was not
over, we crept into the entrance (8’ deep, 7’draft) to the marina and squeezed
in between to huge motor yachts alongside the jetty. Not a problem in
itself, but the jetty was 5 feet above us and there was no ladder, so Roger
rigged up ‘the plank’ and his crew are made to walk the plank if they want to
get ashore. We called our friends
Rob & Sherralee, who came down to the boat and took us back to their lovely
condo for a BBQ. It was a lovely
evening, which was just a perfect example of what cruising is all about….seeing
new places, meeting and making new friends.
