We motored the 8 miles from Case Pilote past the crowded Fort-de-France anchorage and towards the marina in freshening ENE 25-30 knot winds. We ran out of water as we attempted to pick up the fuel pontoon so retreated to pick up one of the 5 waiting pontoons outside the entrance. Chris took the dinghy ashore and arranged for a mooring. We waited for a particularly severe squall to go through and moved in to pick up the stern to mooring with lazy lines - all completed without drama

There is only one marina near to Fort de France - it is in the industrial area some 5 miles to the south east. it is quite new - opened in 2014 and has little infrastructure around it - one patisserie that was closed because of carnival. To get anywhere you need a taxi that are a 10 minute call away. There did not seem to be a bus either which was odd as this is a community project run by the local government - as are the buses. We ended up hiring a car from the nearby international airport and indeed this is an excellent place to pick up and deposit transiting crew

We caught a taxi towards the town and enjoyed our first night of carnival - although returning to the boat before it got too dark - and out of hand
