A fine sailing day once again with full mainsail
and genoa in blistering sunshine, warm winds and gentle sea with some swell.
Some crew took promenades around the estate today as Associate's bow carved
dramatically through the deep blue ocean. It will be odd when the noise of water
passing the hull is silenced
We planned for an 18 day passage but because of the
light and contrary winds in the first 10 days it looks as though we may now
be 24 days. We have been starting to run out of things. As first reported last
night we have run out of breakfast tea bags - but do have decaf ones and plenty
of alternatives - earl grey etc. The fresh fruit is also starting to become low
as well. The pears lasted 5 days. The bananas 11 days (just) - the final ones
being flambéed in rum - and we have 4 oranges left. The grapefruit is
holding up well and we have about 14 left. The apples are still okay -
although some have been jettisoned and some have been stewed for breakfast as
they deteriorated. There are some lemons. Fear not - scurvy is not a threat as
we still have 20+ cartons of orange juice and several packets of
biscuits
Katie prepared 21 frozen meals and we had 3 big pies
along with fresh pasta and along with emergency supplies of canned ham and tuna
we will not starve - quite the opposite. The cake mountain is also not
threatened. There is talk about diets when we arrive home!
Thankfully, sense of humour remains in abundance - even
following 17 days at sea
669 miles to go - just a long, tacking Fastnet Race
