During our morning before setting off from Combarro we discovered that our batteries were very worst for wear and had obviously not been charged properly. Further investigation showed a blown 65 amp fuse and some evidence of heating of the terminals. This was not good news. The back up system for this is the alternator on the main engine that charges the batteries directly so we set off and motored all the way to Baiona in the Ria de Vigo and tied up in the marina of the Monte Real Club de Yates. We were welcomed into berth by one of the bosuns of this rather pleasant yacht club and then set out exploring the historic town on our bikes. Sorting the batteries would have to wait until tomorrow

Baiona's claim to fame is that it was the first place that the caravel 'Pinta' - part of Christopher Columbus' fleet - landed in mainland Europe after returning from the New World in 1493. There is a replica of the ship moored just beside the Club marina. We did the tourist bit.......

The harbour is dominated by a castle and villa contained within Medieval walls - this is now a Paradore (Spanish government hotel group based in restored historic buildings - well worth an investigation)

Our evening was made by enjoying a sundowner on the sun soaked terrace of the Yacht Club whilst the members children played on the lawn. Very reminiscent of the Royal Corinthian in Cowes
