Today dawned bright and clear with a 2.5m swell left
over from the storm to the north. We had sailed gently through the night tacking
to make sure that we were making both our west and southern route
Today was Paul's birthday so we let him sleep in whilst
we decorated the boat with balloons and banners. Following the traditional
rendition of 'Happy Birthday' we enjoyed a full 'English' breakfast and he
opened his cards and presents that had been safely delivered from
home
The wind died as expected and we set off under motor on
our quest to the south where the expected NE tradewinds will be - hopefully
finding them tomorrow. We understand that there is another wind hole ahead
but as long as we go far enough south - probably 17 degrees north we should be
okay and keep the trades all the way to St Lucia
As the sea became calmer and more glassy we enjoyed a
tea of freshly baked scones (another wonder from Katie) with 'squirty' cream and
jam. As it had calmed so much we then decided to stop for a swim.....in 4334mtrs
of water.....we could not see or touch the bottom. The ocean temperature was 29
degrees so it was both refreshing and slightly scary. We all went in - but
not at the same time. To cap it all a large pod of dolphins joined joined us
with our placebo gin and tonics
We expect another quiet night with the engine running
to maintain our momentum south. We have been at sea for a week and have
covered some 700 miles with approximately 2150 miles to go..........we are a
very happy crew about to celebrate Paul's birthday with a celebration meal with
a glass of bubbles
