Sunday 25 January

We had arranged to go and see Katie's sister, Cara and her husband Mike, who were staying in Barbados for a couple of months. This also presented an opportunity for us to apply for a full visa for US and US territories such as the US Virgin Islands. For a full visa you have an interview at an appropriate US Embassy and the one in Bridgetown serves the whole of the Caribbean. We have to have a full visa as we arrive on our own boat - not a recognised carrier like an airline or a cruise ship. A full visa - as opposed to an online 'ESTA' type - lasts 10 years and as our plans include the Eastern seaboard of the US this was a worthwhile investment of our time. We applied online from UK in January and had the application accepted save for a face to face interview that was scheduled for 29 January

We packed our bags, packed the boat up and set off to the local airport to catch the late LIAT flight direct to Bridgetown

We had arranged a taxi pick up from the airport but arrived just as the BA and Virgin flights from the UK disgorged their passengers so were a bit late getting through customs. The taxi was playing the local radio which was broadcasting a 'songs of praise' from a local church. It was a hoot.....

We finally arrived and despite the late hour were royally welcomed and entertained by Mike and Cara
