We sailed - well motored the first bit - from Muros out
of the Ria and along the coast outside a number of rocky outcrops - that were
clearly marked on the chart but have no navigation warning marks. It was easy to
spot them in the light winds. As we approached the turn into the Ria de Arousa -
south of Isla Salvora - the wind picked up and we enjoyed a romping reach (fast
sail) up north for the 11 miles or so up the Ria to our chosen destination, Cabo
Cruz. Billed as a mussel canning factory town nothing could have prepared us for
the number of wooden mussel farm beds that surrounded the passage -
'viveros' - there were acres of them. Especially when one of them looked like an
approaching submarine - which it was.....a bit of a shock. Not sure we knew that
the Spanish Navy had any submarines. Well it was only a small one
We hauled down the sails and made our way into the
little marina and tied up successfully. Initial exploration found a small town
with a small supermarket and not much else - could not even find our customary
afternoon ice cream - and could not find the expected shop selling mussels
direct. we retired to the boat
A quiet night in was punctuated by a dash to the marina
bar (the only bar) to watch BAR narrowly beat the French Americas Cup boat
Groupama whilst they closed the bar around us
