Lagos - 16 - 27 July 2017

We waved goodbye to our new sailing recruit, Jane, who told us that she would love to join us on our Atlantic crossing later this year. This is great news as it will give Katie a female companion to balance off against the 4 male crew members. When Jane left we set about getting the blocked aft heads fixed and ended up for two days in the local yard whilst the yard fixed the sea cock, pump and  drilled out the holding tank! We also wanted to fix the cockpit speakers and this was duly completed.
We pumped up the dinghy and set out to visit the local sea caves - unfortunately after about 30 minutes our outboard engine packed up and refused to start again - meaning a very long row back into Lagos harbour. after about an hour we tried the engine again and it came to life and managed to nurse it back to Associate.

We were starting to think about leaving when another problem came to light with our electrics meaning a forced stay until Monday when a local engineer - John - could visit

Having fixed all our issues - including getting the outboard fixed (dirty carb) - we went shopping and were chatting about going on to the next port when Katie crashed her bike, falling off and badly braking her wrist. There followed a log afternoon/evening visiting three hospitals - finally seeing a surgeon who subsequently booked us in to have a "pinning" operation the following morning. Katie stayed in overnight so they could prep her for the op and I retired to the bar........

Upshot is that Katie will have her arm in plaster for 6 weeks so we will see how that changes our plans - if at all

Some of the British locals - of which there are quite a few - warned us when we arrived that Lagos is difficult to leave and it has velcro attached to it - more like super glue at the moment!
