A rough and rolly night found us in a the position to
turn towards St Lucia away from the 12 degree south that we have been living on
for the last few days so we have now pointed the bows at our goal some 965 miles
away - YES - under 1000!
Following the loss of our autopilot yesterday we
successfully ran our night steering regime during the dark hours - 15
minutes on and 15 minutes off for 2 hours during the watch system and then
each doing 20 minutes with 1hr 40 minutes off during the day. Variously steering
by compass, moon, or star we are happy that this will get us home
The wind - and sea - has increased and we have been
surfing down the waves with a pocket genoa, staysail and trysail - the record
wad 9.16knots with Katie at the helm
This evening we celebrated only (only?) 1000 miles to go
with a bottle of bubbles and Chris related his Desert Island Discs. All good fun
but last thought was that this may be our last Tuesday night at sea.........hope
so - just need a few days at 150 miles plus
