We spent a very pleasant couple of nights in this city with its old quarter, bustling shopping area and tapas bars. Home to the worlds oldest lighthouse (Torre de Hercules) built by the Romans 'at the end of the earth' (Finisterra). Sadly it was closed when we arrived so we couldn't climb it ;-(. The other interesting bit of history was regarding the Spanish heroine Maria Pita - a sort of Spanish Joan of Arc - who defeated Drake and his army in 1589 in their attack on the city. It wasn't all culture during our stay and we enjoyed a fine 'long lunch' in Taberna de Cunqueiro as recommended by David's Guardian reader friends. We waved goodbye to our intrepid crew and they returned to UK leaving us to commence our passage west then south.
