Left Hammamet at 05:30 17th July 2009 with a calm sea and made
8,5kts with engine and main up.
When abeam of Kelibia (Qulaybiyah) at 11:30 a strong wind started
blowing from NW about 15-20kts. We decided to keep the engine on and the main up so we can make our
way to Cap Bon.
After leaving Kelibia five miles, the wind veered to the NWW and
increased to 20-25 knots so we decided to take a reef and unfurled 1/3 of
our genoa with a new course 006 making a good progress. Cap Bon (Ra’s al
Tib), unfortunately was too hazy and windy and could not take a picture,
was now on our port tack with the impressive light house guarding the
shipping lane.
When we passed the cape the seas were big and the wind was 22-26
kts we were making 8-9kts and decided to change our plan and head to Sidi
Bou Said, a small nice fishing village between Cap Carthage and
Tunis-La Goulette.
Arrived
at 18:30 but the port was full so with the ''assistance'' of a
bottle of Mpampatzim (Μπαμπατζιμ)
Tsipouro we convinced the ’’capitain du port’’ to let us berth alongside
the Fuel station.
The port
assistant suggested tobuy from his fisherman friend some
octopus which we followed and for dinner we had macaroni and octopus
(κοφτό μακαρονάκι με χταπόδι πασπαλισμένο με μηζύθρα Κολινών)
delicious!!
No mosquitoes but unfortunately some strange small insects
that invaded the boat. Fortunately not
biting!
We were
tired so went to sleep early. Pictuers will
follow when we will find an Internet
connection.
Our regards from Tunisia
