Communications-Electronics

One of the most important issues, was
''communications’’. The final decision was to have: 1. A satellite phone able to connect with
the computer for mails (IRIDIUM 9505) 2. Inmarsat mini-C for Emergency calls,
Navigational information, Weather reports and
mail 3. HF radio (SSB) for emergency calls, weather
faxes and mails Now after completing the trip, it maybe sound too much, I would
choose the same ways of communications with the only change in the model of the
SSB from the Icom M700Pro (US specs) to Icom M801E or Icom M710 (EC
spec) The most difficult part for the
communications installation was the SSB. Various mistakes were done although we
had read numerous articles and writings on the subject. The final work was done
after I met Alfred Deubler a German specialist in adeubler {CHANGE TO AT} hotmail {DOT} com great guy. The inmarsat and Iridium installation were staright forward,
following the manuals. Bear in mind that for all of these communications you
need providers therefore you have ot add costs for each one. Service
Provider Iridium Mailasail
for mail address and airtime and equipment Iridium
Mackay Communications USA for airtime and
equipement SSB
I used an American company who were excellent but suggest you use a European to comply with the EC rules
Inmarsat Mini-C Bought it from Thrane and Thrane and used as provider Seamobile Europe
Τhe photos you see in this entry are a real test sent as a joke with theme the ''flinstones'' from the Iridium 9505 to show our ''primitive'' feelings.
