27 November 2007- Haul out in Porto Cheli Argolida, Greece
Tuesday morning I embarked the hydrofoil to PortoCheli from
Pireaus and as soon as I arrived Frank's yard was ready by the dock to haul out
Armenistis. I had not seen the boat out of the water, since I inspected the
under the waterline part myself diving in Chania. I was curious to see if there
was any damage that I may had not noticed during my inspection. The boat was hauled and it looked in a perfect condition. At the same time Manolas, the well known sailmaker from Pireaus, was
passing by and he came to say hello, checked around Armenistis and
gave me a great pleasure with his comment: ''looks in great
shape!! is she new?''. I had not asked a surveyor to check the boat, I thought my 40
years of experience was covering this job but always had a small
doubt whether I had taken the right decision...but now I was
satisfied. Watching the boat out of the water I started thinking all the work needed for the transatlantic passage and how to make her more beautiful. My mind was full of thoughts and ideas and I was looking forward to bring Michalis and Katerina (my children) here to see her and give me their comments. I took off the sails, the lazy bag and the dinghy to store in Frank's storage cleaned the boat and left for home. The plan was to leave the boat there for a few months and then move her to Pireaus area to start the neccessary work. So I kept my fingers crossed to find a berth in Pireaus. |
