Gennaker Up

27 November

After a dead run using the repaired Spinnaker pole we changed our course to enable us to fly the Gennaker.  From 17:00 today till the evening and around 20:00 with the Gennaker. The wind was picking up so we decided to drop it and go back to the Genoa for the night. It gets dark here at about 18:00 UTC so we felt it was time to change sails a bit too late. The boat was riding nicely the waves and it was also time for a tuna salad for dinner with lots of brown bread and cold beer.
Then I decided to stay on watch since the wind was 18-25kt and I felt steering for a couple of hours then switched to our best friend...the Wind Vane pilot.
The moon has been so bright that you can see the deck and the white caps of the big waves coming on our starboard. We make 8-11kt and it is such a pleasure to see Armenistis surfing the waves.
At about 23:00 UTC I saw a light abeam of our starboard and then I saw the navigation lights of a ship, went down to the navigation table and saw on the A.I.S. M/V Crimson Neptune, not sure but most likely a container vessel bound to Brazil she was making 14kt and when she passed from our stern she was like a dark monster it was a container vessel indeed with lots of empty containers on board you could tell from the bow been to much out of the water.
Now I am writing for the blog after I read mails from friends. I have been updated of most socio economic news, the thanksgiving menu at the White House, how much Greece owes (OMG), the flu story and of course the Hospital video saga (the video cannot be received but I received a newspaper article......)
I have to leave you now, don’t forget I am on watch!! It is  getting cloudy and may have a squall in a while.
