The weather while sailing in the Med can be received from VHF and SSB transmissions, the INMARSAT and via the internet when GPRS or 3G available.
When in the Atlantic we received it from the INMARSAT and used several times the satellite phone to receive the weather  via e-mail from www.movingweather.com (subscription required) the service is very good you can receive it anywhere in the world but it costs, the time on the phone and the anual subscription for the service.
During the ARC you receive the weather from the commitee for the whole area.
A useful site is  http://weather.mailasail.com/ where you can find lots of information from experts who you will meet if you participate in the ARC.
