Enroute to Gibraltar

10 Sept 2009 After a preparation of the sails,
folding of the dinghy and various ship's work we discussed the tides and current
at Gibraltar straits and went to sleep.
11 Sept 2009 Woke up at 4 am to sail to Gibraltar
un order to arrive at Europa point 5 hours before High Water which for today was
at 12:33 UTC therefore we should arrive at 08:30 UTC to have the tide with
us and the current against us, calculating a favourable speed of 1,3-1,7
kts.
Left Estepona at 04:50 hoisted the
main with course 187degrees later changed to 204 deg.
When we came close to Gib we were amazed by the
ships at the roads both on the east side of the Rock and in the Bay of
Algeciras. Counted 17 shios on the Eastern roads!
Passed abeam Europa point at 07:40 and changed our
course to go to Tarifa in order to refuel (Estepona didnt have a fuel
station).
