Typhoon fly by South Atlantic

Hollinsclough - Is the World Round?

Sail Yacht Hollinsclough, Falklands bound South Georgia.

Sailing for St Patricks Day 105 degrees bound South Georgia.

The Speedwell launch gave us a tug of the FIC jetty into the wind. We cleared the mighty red bow of the Paharos fisheries ship and waved goodbye to our French chums aboard yacht Hanayna. A quick run West up the harbour for a perfectly timed twelve oclcok wave to school chums flooding out of the front doors for lunch time.

South Atlantic waters of Falklands Eagle One, Typhoon Eurofighter so low he was touching the waves. Tight circle to return for a wave rolling his wings over the back deck. We had seen nothing yet, radar on to give him some target practice. He screamed in direct to the bow and went vertical over the mast. The pair of Rolls Royce motors spat flame as the afterburners rocked our stomachs with sonic boom. Totally epic, what a send of!

A big wind evening past force eight and topped out at forty nine knots of wind for a fast sail. Jib on the pole, cutter full and a little main for steerage. A clear evening of wild star sky the like you only get fifty plus south Atlantic. Huge low sunrise, albatross and dolphins, pot noodles for a late breakfast.

First twenty four hours delivered 170 nautical miles run.
