Passage Abismo to escape the wind in a muscle
camp.
At Averel point we committed to the one way streets of Saumarez Island. The Chilean Navy only permits this route in daylight, so narrow it's a one way street north into Pardo Passage for Canal Escape. Three thousand feet sides rose to the sky for three miles of what could have been Llanberis Pass at sea level. The narrowest moment was Passage Pilotopardo, Winets Pass at Castelton but in a boat and no sign of Bargate Cottage or Pevril Castle. To some surprise we had been in lee of the mountains without a wind funnel, back in the open thirty knots of wind came down upon us, Porto Mont. First civilisation in four hundred miles and fifteen days but it was beyond us. Caleta Maris Stella in Passo del Idino south of Porto Eden We pulled into an age old mussel smoking camp, long abandoned but a haven
of
green trees and mighty shell piles out of the winds of the Patagonian Ice Fields. Dropped anchor and set about exploration of the shores of Caleta Moris Stella. 49.22.36 S 74.25.05 W |
