OOJAH's AWESOME ODYSSEY

We flew back to New York with Christene's sister Julie & brother in law Philip after a whirlwind visit home to the UK. After a day's sightseeing in Manhattan we left Mamaroneck & 'enjoyed' a vigorous "sea breeze" reach to Port Jefferson on the North coast of Long Island & capped the day with a fine thunderstorm in the evening. Our plan was to be in Mystic for the celebrations on July 4 but people were beginning to ask us what we were doing about hurricane Arthur - what hurricane? It's still hundreds of miles south but heading this way, maybe. However it is now affecting our weather & on arriving here in a Mystic we learnt they have cancelled the celebrations due the forecast heavy rain. As I write the thunder is rumbling & the rain has started - déjà vue!
Mystic is lovely if touristy. It lies on a shallow but pretty estuary with lots of moorings. There's a small historic shipyard & restoration centre combined with a museum, and shops & restaurants. The Oyster Bar did us proud & we waded back to Oojah to dry out while the storm passed by offshore.

Love to all from Christene & Peter
