Harvey & Sophia flew out for a week last weekend which has been lovely. We hired a car on Monday & drove all round the island. There's very little in the way of beaches & the sand is a grey black volcanic colour. The ground rises steeply out of the sea to 5,000' with deep ravines & narrow green valleys with steeply terraced slopes. Higher up it is forested although a fire in August has done a lot of damage. Colourful houses are dotted around a handful of villages & it has a very relaxing atmosphere. All in all it is a very beautiful island & even the marina is delightful. However we are concerned that NE winds have set in & we need to get back upwind to Las Palmas for the start of the ARC in 28 days. Fingers crossed.
