OOJAH's AWESOME ODYSSEY

With only very light tailwinds forecast we planned to sail the full 190 nm to Essaouira & accept 2 nights at sea if necessary, to conserve our fuel for the 240 nm passage to Graciosa, a small island just North of Lanzarote. On the second morning I managed to 'wine glass' the spinnaker on our only jibe & we had to spend 2 hours untangling it all - not very clever of me! However at lunch time the wind freshened & we thundered down the coast at 8 kts & were anchored off by 9pm - definitely the best sail of the trip so far.
We entered the harbour this morning - it's the most authentic old arab working fishing harbour you could imagine. It reeks of rotting fish & diesel & the water is filthy. It's a hive of activity ashore with fish being landed & traded & new wooden traditional fishing boats being built by hand on the quay. The walled medina lies behind. We're now checked in & are going ashore to explore - wish us luck!
