The passage north from St Croix was a delight - 35nm in 4.5hrs! They don't come much better. We made our landfall at a pretty anchorage on St James Island 1nm SE of St Thomas, & then moved on to nearby Red Hook Bay to provision. Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas is the capital of the USVI but is relatively overdeveloped & suffers from all the disadvantages of being a busy cruise ship stopover.
We are now spending a few days slowly circumnavigating the ajacent island of St John which could not be more different. It was purchased for the nation by LS Rockefeller in 1954 & turned into a national park. The snorkelling has been excellant. We came across the very atmospheric Skinny Legs bar last night in Coral Bay - live music, lots to drink & woops ... C + 2 ipads & 2 phones in the water trying to climb into the dinghy! Oh dear ... all written off (well not C but she is a bit worse for wear this morning)
