After a week's convalescing we had an easy downwind sail into new territory. Culebra is in the Spanish Virgin Isles, a few small islands to the East of Puerto Rico. After 300 years Spain granted Puerto Rico independence in the late 19 century but shortly after the Americans invaded & the island now has Commonwealth status within the USA. Their Commissioner in the House of Representatives can speak but not vote, but they pay no US tax. Culebra is very 3rd world & run down but it has a certain charm and there are good anchorages & the 'Dinghy Dock' is a lively place to meet up & swop stories with an eclectic set of live a boards & cruisers. A band playing only African drums performed on Saturday. What a great night!

Love from Peter & Christene
