The cays are a string of narrow low lying islands stretching 100 nm north north west from Georgetown on Great Exuma. To the east is the Atlantic, 5,000' deep, & to the west a shallow plateau up to 30 nm offshore with between 5 & 15' of water. There are hundreds of islets & nooks & cranies into which the brave & foolhardy can squeeze especially with a shallow draft boat. The water is clear & turquoise over white sand & when the wind is down the whole area is spectacular. Every so on is a settlement of a handful of houses with the population of 50 to 100 - supplies & fuel, let alone Internet, are hard to come by. Our first stop at Farmers Cay was delightful although the very strong stream thro the anchorage was uncomfortable. Then we went to Black Rock, & we're now at Staniel Cay half way up the chain. The wind is down for the time being and the snorkelling is excellent here; we've been in a cave extending right under an islet where some scenes from Thunderball we're filmed - fun
