I think I must be one of the luckiest
travellers in the last week. My flight out on Tuesday left Gatwick and landed in
Porto only ten minutes late. I did miss my train connection by two minutes so
had to wait two hours for the next one. Volcanos ...... no trouble.
Minka was as I left her except for a
light covering of dust which might or might not be volcano
excrement.
I spent yesterday fitting the various
things I brought out with me. The VHF radio is now fully functional including
the command mike which had stopped working. The new shaped duvets and covers for
the forecabin fit brilliantly so my guessed measurements were accurate. The
biggest job was fitting the new engine mounts. As always there was one bolt
which didn't want to come undone so I now have grazed knuckles on both hands.
Both of the front mounts were in very poor conditioin with the rubber breaking
away from the metal housing. I must make a note to change them again in 15
years.
The weather here is very warm and I
had my shorts on for the first time yesterday. The forecast looks as if the wind
will go round into the north tomorrow but will be very gentle. Minka needs
filling up with diesel so I will organise that today and leave here tomorrow
morning. I will be quite sorry to go as it is a beautiful and very friendly
place. |
