Having left Tobermory we went to Kilchoan where there were “well maintained moorings” for the night, ready for an early departure to Skye with the tide the following morning passing around Ardnamurchan Point, the most western point of mainland Britain. Crossing the Sound the wind didn’t want to disappoint us - 29 knot gusts! On arrival we learnt that Salty had been warned not to take a mooring as they had not been checked this year - a large white notice was put on them as we left the following morning. After a rocky night at anchor the weather forecast was grim - not only force 5-7 but rough seas. We abandoned our plans and sailed down the Sound to Loch Spelve, a tricky entrance but a lovely anchorage only marred by mussel farms. Salty invited us for supper in their lovely warm boat, three courses - Sarah raised the bar on boat suppers! We spent a quiet night as the wind dropped for once.
