We logged 2,925.1 miles for the crossing. It took
641 hours (26 days 17 hours) and we averaged 4.56 knots. It was a slow crossing
but apparently other boats are experiencing lack of wind with some taking
up to 40 days. We did use all our diesel and motored for 103 hours mainly going
south to try and find wind.
We made land fall at Hiva Oa
![]() The harbour was small but pretty with a dramatic
landscape
![]() ![]() During the crossing Helen caught a
dorado
![]() ![]() and baked some bread
![]() At Hiva Oa we found that the boat had an amazing
growth of goose necked barnacles around the waterline, and probably below but
yet to be seen, so Mark spent a morning scraping them off. He also scraped of
the 26 day growth on his face!
![]() During the passage Mark played boat chess with
Oscar on Camelot. Two moves per day which were announced at the morning and
evening radio nets. Home made chess sets were used.
![]() We are now moving round the Marquesas and then to
the Tuomotu Islands before sailing to Tahiti sometime at the beginning of
May.
